PTMEG (Polytetramethylene Ether Glycol) is a key raw material for producing high-performance materials such as spandex, polyurethane elastomers, and ester-ether copolymer elastomers. The uniformity of its molecular weight distribution directly affects core properties of the final products, including elasticity and aging resistance.
For a long time, the key equipment for domestic PTMEG production — the short-path evaporator — relied on imports, becoming a bottleneck restricting the independent development of the industry.
Technological Breakthrough and the Value of Domestic Development
On June 28, 2025, after two years of intensive efforts, Shanghai Nagamori successfully achieved the domestic development of the short-path evaporator for PTMEG molecular weight narrowing units and completed the delivery of the first system! This breakthrough ends foreign technological monopoly and holds significant demonstrative value for the industry.
Overcoming Challenges, Breaking Through Limits
The short-path evaporator is the core equipment for narrowing the molecular weight distribution of PTMEG. Its manufacturing process is complex, requires high-precision coordination, and demands that the system maintain an extremely high vacuum during actual operation — posing stringent requirements for both process design and production manufacturing. Previously, all domestic PTMEG production lines relied on imported equipment, which was not only costly but also left the supply chain vulnerable to external control.
To tackle this challenge, the Nagamori team collaborated with Huafeng Group in a coordinated effort on process and equipment development. After nearly a hundred trials, including:
·Hot-mock tests of process materials
·Optimization tests for film-forming effects
·Validation of scraper wear resistance
·Simulation and optimization of distributors, feeding methods, and rotor structures
Each trial presented new challenges, but the team persevered in innovation and ultimately succeeded in breaking through key technical barriers.
